Nerve Endings Firing Away

Not too long ago, the norm was just one interview, and reference calls in our field. Maybe a second interview if one of the interviewers couldn’t make it to the first one (usually a formality). Nowadays, 2-3 interviews with recruiter/HR, supervisors, and peers. What gives?
