More than 84 percent of our power consumption came via solar energy in 2021 compared to 71 percent in 2020, so definitely a significant improvement. We consumed 18 percent (more than 2,000 kWh) less power in 2021 than the previous year, although our panels produced nearly 200 kWh less than the last year. Perhaps we spent less time at home this year than in 2020 when we didn’t travel much.
In real terms, we avoided more than 6 tons of CO2, which translated into growing nearly a hundred trees. Pretty impressive, I may add. However, in relative terms, United Airlines said, I blew through 2 tons of CO2, so there’s only so much we can do in terms of personal behavior change. We need big-scale policy and technological changes, especially in light of such infuriating news.
